When you have a relaxer how often should you wash your hair?

I got a relaxer two weeks ago and I was told that you shouldn't wash your hair at all cuz it will lose its texture of straightness. I don't think this is true depending on how you treat it after its wet. And also, I think I should wash for the healthiness of my scalp so it wont be itchy. Cuz doesn't hair and scalp need water for hydration and moisturizing? I use grease and spray sheen olive oil and stuff but I think hair needs water esp when its permed, right? Correct me if I'm wrong but I feel that I should wash it every 2 weeks whether or not its permed. But I don't know what to do cuz I at the same time I don't want to mess up its texture!

Search Oprah Winfrey's website for "andre walker" and an article will come up where he gives some good hair advice. He says that healthy hair is clean and conditioned. IMO, that doesn't mean shampooing every two weeks. When I was relaxed I shampooed and conditioned once a week and during those times was when my hair was at its healthiest. Also, you can condition without shampooing. For instance, you can use conditioner as much as you want (be aware of its ingredients) and shampoo once a week if you wanted. It's called cowashing. Conditioner can remove any water soluble products from your hair, but it cannot remove everything. Conditioner also builds up on your hair, so still have to shampoo or clarify to get your hair completely clean. Many people don't know this, but regular shampoo cannot remove everything either, which is why it's good to use a clarifying shampoo once in awhile.

Whenever relaxed hair gets wet it's natural for it to become kinky, frizzy, and harder to comb. That's why you have to use some form of heat to get it straight again. When you go to the hair salon for a touch-up, your beautician probably puts you under the hair dryer with rollers or flat irons your hair afterward. This is because the heat is needed to get your ends straight again. If you do it right, you can also get your hair straight using just a blow dryer and round brush.
