What kind of animal lives on the beach rocks in Maui and has a ton of legs and scales on a rounded body?
I saw these small animals on the lava rock that is right on the beach. The had almost a purplish iridescent tint to their body and were about 2 inches wide.
It could have been an amphipod. They look like the little sowbugs you might find under boards. Lots of legs and a scaled shell kind of like a shrimps tail..
It might also have been the early stage of a crab or shrimp before they get their adult form. They are called megalops but it just means the big eyed larval stage.
Usually 10 legs.
