Started Eyes
2010
organisms first started evolving eyes n arms they where not functional at first what is the benefit in?
It just does not seem likely that eyeballs n arms can just evolve I know organs can because you need them to survive but what's the benefit
Of course they're functional ... right from the start.
Look at jellyfish, flatworms, starfish, nematodes, planaria, rotifers, etc. etc. ... these all have 'eyespots' ... areas of light-sensitive cells which are fully functional in the sense of allowing the organism to detect light, and the direction it is coming from. The development of what we call "eyes" is just a very long set of incremental improvements ... such a slight indentation leading to a more cuplike structure and eventually a sealed eyeball ... each new development providing some small advantage over earlier structures.
The same with arms. What we call 'arms' are the repurposed front legs of a *long* lineage of quadruped vertebrates, and those legs evolved from repurposed fins from a long lineage of aquatic vertebrates. At every stage, the development of the limb is a slight improvement on earlier limbs in earlier ancestors based on the current environment.
