Is it true that rechargeable appliances 'burn out' if you leave them charging all the time?
A couple of people have told me that appliances and machines with built in rechargable batteries (such as laptop computers, electric razors, cell phones, etc) will lose their power if you leave them plugged in all the time. They say that if you leave them pluuged in all the time they kind of 'burn out', or that the battery loses its potential, and thus will offer less power time when fully charged. If this is true, one would think it would be best to charge something, and then use all (or most of) the power before placing it back on the recharger.
Is this theory true?

Depends on the type of rechargeable battery. NiCads were notorious for this. NiMH batteries don't have this problem.
I don't know enough about the newer Lithium Ion batteries to tell you about this. Perhaps someone, here, can educate us both.
