Combination heat! (I still yes)?
What would you do for water 50-55 degrees? (I have a 3 / 2 combination Billabong FOIL Sealed complete) Get booties and gloves for warmth? (The cheapest) or obtain thermal shorts and vest? Or simply buy a combination 4 / 3? You do buy one or the other, you can not combine these options.
I had a 3 / 2 as a first step in SoCal and ended up getting a 4 / 3 later that I found hotter. Did not need gloves or booties. If you just buy the costume Billabong maybe get a shirt if you just heat and cold wait next year for a 4 / 3. I surfed in costume 3 / 2 closed for a year and was a bit cold, but got one year use out of it, the more I could always wear it during late fall or early spring.
